Experience

beginnings of a ghostwriterThank you so much for being interested in who I am and where I’ve been. Perhaps there is something I can help you with. To help you make that decision or just because you seem to want to know more about me, here are a few highlights of where I’ve been when it comes to writing, reading, and working with the envisioned word. If you have a project in mind, don’t hesitate to email me so we can talk about it in greater detail.

Writer

Freelance ghostwriting

As a freelance ghostwriter, I have produced more than 3000 books and articles to date. While many of these fall within the non-fiction arena, several have been creative works. Flash fiction, poetry, short stories, novels, memoir, how-to – each one has its own structure and flow and I love them all.

I’m also a registered ghostwriter with Ghost Writer, Inc.

Editor

Freelance, Reflections Journal, Rowlett Lakeshore Times

Currently strictly freelance, my experience includes an ebook publishing house publishing most things romance – from sweet through a little naughty, to erotic with a little LGBT and BDSM thrown in – in novel and novella length; an academic journal dedicated to public rhetoric, civic writing, and service learning; a community newspaper serving a combined population of approximately 100,000; and independently for college level textbooks through literary works of all kinds.

Reviewer

Write on Wendy; Our Write Side, This Dark Matter; NetGalley; US Review of Books

Specializing in reviewing self-published and industry published books, I do my best to review as many books as I can in a continuing effort to support writers however I can. Providing honest feedback on titles in a wide range of genres, posting to different sites enables me to keep my options open and my flexibility on reviews nice and limber.

Art Critic

Mesquite News / Rowlett Lakeshore Times

Part of my responsibilities as a journalist was to assess and critique all types of art from print media to performance art to sculpture and literature. My success in this area was enhanced by my training as a graphic artist while my writing in this field significantly benefited my creative writing skills.

Writing Instructor

Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi

As an instructor, I worked with mostly freshmen college students, reintroducing them to the power of writing and the joy of creativity even in the most serious of their academic writings. One of the things I loved about my job was finding new, creative ways to demonstrate how the skills we develop in our writing assignments can be adjusted to meet other needs.

Grant Writer

Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi

As a grant writer, I worked with researchers to find funding opportunities and prepare grant proposals on a variety of topics. It’s fascinating to me to see how even the most serious of technical topics can be enhanced by a touch of creative thought and a twist of skilled writing experience.

English Master

Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi

After completing the Master’s level training program in minimal time, I was thrilled to receive academic distinction in both literature and technical writing. This success proved the well-balanced strength of my previous humanities education.

American Writers and Artists, Inc.

Training and support in all levels of professional copywriting for B2B (business to business) and B2C (business to consumer) materials. I tend to specialize in web content, white papers, case studies, and internal documents (training materials, etc) for environmental technology companies and for health and wellness initiatives, though I’ve been known to write in other fields as well. You can see more about my professional side on my other site, WendyStrain.com.
